Maple Grove Town Green Park Under Construction
City of Maple Grove officials have been working for almost 10 years on a plan to develop the Town Green park. Construction began this last May 2009 and is proceeding well with completion expected by June 2010. The new park is located along Main Street in Maple Grove and is being called a new “urban park”.
It will have three pavilions with concession space, public party rooms, and other space. The main bank shell will feature a wing-like canopy roof that will be located right up to the water’s edge of the adjacent lake. This classic terraced bowl design will maximize viewing sight lines and enhance acoustics. Because of the open sides, park visitors will be able to view the performances from other parts of the park also.
The main band shell will be the showcase of the park with its main focus being the performing arts. Expect to see many performances of dance, orchestra, and theater as the park opens. Maple Grove Park and Recreation is coordinating the schedule which will be performed by non-profit groups, schools, and volunteers. Some smaller professional shows will also be planned.
The economic downturn has actually helped this project. With builders increasingly looking for work to keep their businesses alive, the city was able to secure many bids at 20% or more below what it would have cost just 2-3 years ago. The economy has given the city an ideal opportunity to develop this Maple Grove Real Estate. The construction of this project should also help surrounding businesses, bringing in many workers to complete it on time.
Town Green Park is located between the Maple Grove Community Center and Government Center on Main Street. The Park and Rec staff will be publishing the 2010 events calendar within the next couple months. Expect to see a big announce from the city when it is completed.
